When Alex Rodriguez came close to playing for the Boston Red Sox in 2004, the New York Yankees, in what appeared to be a stroke of genius, lured A-Rod, one of baseball's best pitchers, into their camp in an act of outmaneuvering the Sox, leading many to believe that the Red Sox curse would continue.
Then the Boston Red Sox won the 2004 World Series; another 86-year championship drought was smugly predicted by Yankees fans.
The Red Sox just won the 2007 series.
That makes two Major League Baseball championships in the new century.
And how many championships have the Yankees won since 2004?
Zero.
How many in the new century overall, not counting 2000, which was actually the last year of the previous century?
Zero.
How many will the Yankees win with A-Rod?
Zero. He just left the team because the new jet plane owner wasn't making enough money.
George Steinbrenner may not have had one of genius, but it was definitely a stroke. :-O
