Apolo Anton Ohno goes for a second medal in these Games tonight, in the qualifying runs for the men's 500-meter short track speed skating race. Ohno lived up to his surname in the 1500-meter race, slipping and forcing himself to give up his lead and any chance of a medal, but in the 1000-meter race he came back strongly enough to win bronze. Although a pair of South Korean skaters were clearly working together to (successfully) block him in that race, Ohno refused to lend credence to that idea. (Such conspiratorial action is illegal in short track speed skating.) He was philosophical about it, admitting the likelihood that the South Koreans were working together to stop them - Ohno has had some, er, unfortunate run-ins with skaters from the R.O.K. over the years - but gave them the benefit of the doubt. He is a graceful athlete in a sport where grace tends to be in short supply.
