D CW I 4C

CBS and Warner Brothers, the respective owners of the United Paramount Network and the WB network, recently announced that their respective junior networks will merge into a single network come September. Makes sense to me - there's no difference between the two. In fact, the merger is a gambit by the two media monoliths to compete more effectively for the teenage viewer market against the vast number of channels in America's 500-channel television universe. The consolidation will hopefully save costs in a media environment that has demonstrated an inability to support six television networks.
The new network will be called CW, which stands for . . . uh . . . umm . . . er, uh, I have no idea. But given the mercurial world of television, it sure doesn't stand for "conventional wisdom."
