Lost in my recent political punditry was the Iraq torture issue, in which Arizona senator and former prisoner of war John McCain, embarrassed by the Abu Gharib revelations, was able to get a torture ban passed by the Senate and a blessing for it from Bush. But then, as Bush argued, we don't actually need a torture ban in writing, do we? As he and his Aunt Jemima Secretary of State have made clear, the United States does not practice torture!
