The devastation in New Orleans makes me ashamed to be a citizen of a country - this one - whose government can send thousands of soldiers and militiamen to Iraq and can't figure out how to help people in New Orleans. As I type, Laura Bush just finished to speaking to reporters in Lafayette, Louisiana, having offered some spiel on how people are coming together and supporting each other - you don't say! - and trying to defend her husband's inability to commandeer resources to help all of these poor, black people stranded in New Orleans - one of the poorest cities in the country - before her handlers intervened and abruptly ended her impromptu press conference. (Funny how things that start spontaneously always end that way.)
Well, I guess the First Lady's entourage had to do something to explain why her husband was in San Diego the day after the hurricane for a fundraiser or whatever the heck it was. ]:-(
