Paul Wellstone, Minnesota's senior U.S. Senator, died in a plane crash during his re-election campaign. I was so shocked by the news, I've been in a glum mood for the remainder of the day. He was one of the last remaining champions for the little guy, an ardent voice for liberalism in an increasingly rightward political climate. Without Paul Wellstone, America would have been a harsher and more cynical place. He will be missed.
