On His Way To Chicago . . .

 . . . and I hope he loses there.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is a Democratic presidential candidate for 2024.  He's not running to rekindle the spirit of his father or of his Uncle Jack.  In fact . . . I don't know what he's running for.   According to his campaign's Web site, he plans to "focus his campaign on the values Americans hold in common, and lead the country toward an ethos of respectful dialog [sic] and reconciliation across races, parties, and divisions."

Well, fine, but what is he running for?

All I know for certain is that he believes all of those conspiracy theories about vaccines that MAGA Republicans relentlessly promoted during the COVID pandemic.  And I'm glad I can talk about the COVID pandemic in the past tense, because the mere possibility of an RFK Jr. Presidency during a pandemic would drive me to drink.

And I'm a teetotaler. 

It's not just his stand on vaccines, which he says also causes autism.   For one thing, he's against aid to Ukraine calling it part of a war against Russia - making him the perfect stooge for Vladimir Putin.  He also stepped into it big time when, at a Washington D.C. rally against COVID vaccination mandates in January 2022, he said, "Even in Hitler's Germany you could cross the Alps into Switzerland, you could hide in an attic like Anne Frank did."

He sort of forgot that Anne Frank lost her fatal game of hide-and-seek and got sent to a death camp.  Though Kennedy apologized for his remark, his understanding of the Third Reich made his Grandpa Joe's comprehension of the same subject seem positively brilliant.

RFK Jr., of course, will not make it to the White House.  He is likely to have his much luck as his siblings Kathleen and Chris had in their bids for higher office (governor of Maryland and governor of Illinois, respectively). However, he's polling at 20 percent among Democratic primary voters, and so he could give President Biden a scare in the early Democratic primaries just like Eugene McCarthy did to President Johnson in 1968 and like Patrick Buchanan did to the first President Bush in 1992, and you know what happened to them.  Kennedy's relatively high polling, though, is likely based on name recognition . . . though it's ironic that, of all the failed Democratic presidential candidates of the past forty years who tried to emulate JFK or RFK - Gary Hart, Al Gore (in his 1988 campaign), Martin O'Malley, Pete Buttigieg - RFK Jr. is the least convincing of them by a wide margin.

I don't know, though.  I'd like to believe that people are not so misguided to support Kennedy for President . . . that people are not that dumb.  But then I saw this.

Hill-arious

Hillary Clinton is beginning to speak out about Donald Trump and his insane policies.  Now her supporters are talking about her doing something insane - running for President again.

Uh-oh.

This is no joke.  She is even rumored to be considering the idea of hosting a TV show about politics as a vehicle for a political comeback. 

Clearly, someone has to put a stop to this.

Hillary was a lousy presidential candidate and a smug politician with a sense of entitlement.  Why would anyone want her to be the Democratic presidential nominee again?  Oh, right, because she got three million more popular votes than Trump.  Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000, but didn't win as big a margin as Hillary did in 2016.  His narrow popular vote win allowed Democrats to come up with all sorts of excuses why he shouldn't run again.  (And he didn't.)  Plus, Hillary is a woman.  So what if playing the gender card - running as a female candidate rather than as a candidate who happened to be a woman - backfired?  La la la, first female President! 

Seriously, I wish she hadn't done as well as she did in the popular vote, because now the Hillary cult is even more determined to push her again in 2020.  And she and her supporters continue to blame everyone else - the Russians, the white working class, the Bernie Sanders supporters, even former President Barack Obama (for not doing enough about the Russians) - while Hillary refuses to take the blame herself for simply being a bad candidate.

Frank Luntz, the Republican pollster, found out something very interesting during one of the fall presidential debates.  He was with a focus group in Ohio, watching the debate, and the voters reacted more viscerally to Trump because he was presenting himself as a fighter despite being a lousy, ill-prepared debater, while Hillary showed no fight and no empathy despite being correct and learned on all the issues.  I remember that debate (it was the second one, and the only debate I bothered to watch).  They both looked awful, but Hillary looked so self-satisfied, she looked as if she had already won the election and was ready to claim victory before anyone had even voted.  Overconfidence will do that to you.   

And there's another thing . . . Remember when Donald Trump called Hillary a nasty woman?  Now, I'm not going to suggest that Hillary is a nasty woman, but I seem to recall that, in the December 2015 Democratic presidential primary debate, Martin O'Malley spoke angrily and passionately about gun control, and a pompous Hillary cackled, "Get a grip, Martin!"  Whether Hillary is nasty or not, that was a nasty thing to say.   

Anyway, the 2016 presidential election revealed that Hillary was running for President based on of a sense of entitlement as much as Donald Trump was running for President based on of a sense of ego.  She clearly didn't care about anything else, as evidenced recently by the fact that Bernie Sanders took part at a women's march on January 21 in Montpelier, Vermont and Martin O'Malley attended the women's march in Washington that same day . . . and Hillary didn't march at all.  She only appeared at the Washington march in the form of life-size cutout images.  And they were more lively than she is. 

2020? Maybe Hillary should just . . . cut out.

Michele Bachmann is running for President.

That's the second scariest six-word sentence in the English language: Michele Bachmann is running for President.

The scariest six-word sentence in the English language would be this: Michele Bachmann has been elected President.

This dame makes Sarah Palin look like Margaret Chase Smith. Can you imagine America's fist female President to be a Tea Party Republican who equates President Obama's private-public hybrid health care law with socialism? How about a woman who thinks carbon dioxide is harmless? Or a woman who thought Lexington and Concord took place in New Hampshire? Okay, history isn't her best subject, you may say, and besides, she actually got her history right, she just screwed up her geography. Well, remember when she said the Founding Fathers worked tirelessly to eradicate slavery, like John Quincy Adams - who did work tirelessly to eradicate slavery but was not a Founding Father and died before slavery was eradicated?

And she advocates home schooling?

Or how about when she announced her presidential campaign in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa yesterday and said she felt a kindred spirit with noted Waterloo favorite son John Wayne? Except that John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa on the other end of the state. But a similarly named fellow was a resident of Waterloo, Iowa - John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer who dressed as a clown and murdered 33 boys.

There was a dangerous clown in Waterloo, Iowa yesterday. Her name was Michele Bachmann.

Chris Matthews admires Bachmann's authenticity and loyal following and says the Democrats could be in trouble without any women in visible, politically powerful positions going into 2012. What? Because Chris Matthews is a women's rights advocate like Newt Gingrich is a family man, you really have to do a double take to consider what Matthews is suggesting - that Bachmann could appeal to soccer moms just because she's a woman. It's even more frightening that people support Bachmann because she's an idiot; her mistakes actually endear her supporters to her because she's like a member of their family to them. Namely, the crazy aunt in the attic.

Bachmann's chances? Small. No sitting House of Representatives member, like Bachmann is, has been elected President since James Garfield in 1880.

We should be glad she won re-election to the House in 2010. She'd have more time as a private citizen to devote to her campaign in she hadn't.
