Come to think of it, they should bring us the rest of him as well.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident and an immigrant from El Salvador who is married to an American citizen, was mistakenly arrested by Donald Trump's secret police (the Gestrumpo) and turned over to the Salvadorans, who quickly incarcerated Abrego Garcia for crimes he didn't commit and criminal associations he doesn't have. The Supreme Court ruled - unanimously - that Abrego Garcia should be brought back to the United States and the U.S. Government should facilitate his return. Taking advantage of the wording, Trump said that, while he could facilitate Abrego Garcia's return, he's unable to and will not do so because El Salvador has the right to hold onto him, and . . . well, that's pretty much it. Besides, Trump now says that Abrego Garcia is a suspected criminal and member of a gang, and so the mistake was deliberate.
And democracy is totalitarianism. Night is day. Black is white. Brown is criminal.
What led Trump to suggest that, well, perhaps Abrego Garcia is a criminal, besides having a permanent tan? Gee, I don't know, maybe he things there's something suspicious about Abrego Garcia having a double surname.
Or his first name. Kilmar? Trump must think that's made up. And besides, he must think, when does a guy from a Spanish-speaking country spell his name with a K?
Anyway, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele - who is a Palestinian ethnic and somehow get elected president of a Latin American country (must be his permanent tan), has refused to let Abrego Garcia go, towing the Trump line that, yes, maybe he is a terrorist, and Senator Chris Van Hollen, the Maryland Democrat who represents Abrego Garcia's adopted home state, traveled to San Salvador, El Salvador's capital, to see and talk to Abrego Garcia but was denied permission to do so, but he plans to keep pushing for the opportunity, and House Democrats have started to back him.
Abrego Garcia was detained without due process as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, but since when has Trump ever cared about the Constitution in general and the Fourteenth Amendment in particular? Besides due process, the Fourteenth Amendment declares all native-born Americans to be citizens at birth, makes all U.S. citizens equal, reduces the size of a state's delegation if said state denies the vote to any U.S. citizen, and bars insurrectionists from running for office. Name me one provision of this amendment that Trump and his supporters have honored.
And please explain to me why Trump is shunning our friendship with Canada, a country geographically larger than any other country except Russia with a population the size of California's, in favor of an alliance with El Salvador, a country smaller in size and in population than New Jersey.
Which means that New Jersey can be an independent republic, too. Again - I am for secession.
