To March Forth On March Fourth?

Things looked bleak just 48 hours ago.

Because the three-judge panel in the presidential immunity case had not ruled yet for three weeks and counting as to whether Donald Trump is immune from criminal prosecution, Judge Tanya Chutkan (above) was forced to postpone the start of the January 6 election subversion trial - originally scheduled for March 4.  But that three-judge panel (an all-female panel, by the way) finally ruled yesterday that Trump cannot claim presidential immunity for anything he had done while in office and cannot claim that he is still immune as a former President when he is now a private citizen.
Well, it sure took them long enough.
Many pundits are likely to say that the January 6 election interference trial is now likely to start sooner rather than later.  And it does look likely that Judge Chutkan will accelerate the process and get this damn trial started, maybe as soon as her originally scheduled March 4 date.  But - and there is always a "but" in talking about Trump -  Steven Cheung (below), Trump's spokesman and a noted winner of a Wo Fat lookalike contest, has announced that Trump plans to appeal this verdict to the Supreme Court, possibly delaying the trial anyway.
And of course, once the trial does get started, it will be so close to the election that Trump's lawyers will accuse Jack Smith of election interference.  Which is ironic, because the trial is meant to determine whether Trump is guilty of just that.

So that means Trump will eke out a victory in November and have his Attorney General dismiss the case.  He won't go to jail.

His detractors will.

And don't count on the Georgia racketeering case to bring Trump down because that case is in limbo as well, thanks to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.  It seems she was indeed in a relationship with black Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade.  Willis has filed a brief explaining her relationship with Wade and she's made clear that she's followed procedure and that she's done nothing wrong, improper, or illegal.  Yeah, well, I can count all of the people her explanation will satisfy on zero fingers.  This case is doomed.

Former MSNBC analyst Zerlina Maxwell once said that, in the end, it's up to black women to save America from itself.  Well, given Fani Willis's current predicament and Judge Chutkan still having to deal with Trump's shenanigans, there's still great skepticism that they can pull that off.  But the efforts of black women to rescue America from its own stupidity haven't all been unsuccessful.  After all, Whitney Houston and Anita Baker saved the pop charts from hack bands like Journey and Loverboy in the 1980s, and BeyoncĂ© put a richly deserved end to obnoxious white-boy rock bands like 3 Doors Down and Puddle of Mudd in the early 2000s.

Don't feel bad if you ultimately can't stop Trump, sistas.  You've already done more for America than you should have been expected to.  I couldn't take much more of Mike Reno.
