Elon Musk succeeded in buying Twitter for $44 billion, and he now plans to take the social media platform private, getting rid of the ability of anyone to buy stock in it. That means he's the boss, what he says goes, and there will be no shareholders to get rid of him,
Ironically, he wants to open Twitter up to everyone in order to promote free speech.
At best, that means I don't have to worry about links on Twitter to my blogs being denied, as has happened on Facebook. At worst, Musk could allow all sorts of misinformation to procreate on Twitter without proper vetting and fact-checking, He could allow the spread of COVID misinformation. He could allow posts praising ISIS and promoting Putin. He could let Trump to tweet again and say outrageous things that . . .
. . . remind us of how much so many people hate him. You know, Musk's gambit could have a beneficial effect on society!
All kidding aside, it remains to be seen whether Musk realizes that great responsibility comes with all the power he just bought himself. We will be watching.
