Inauguration Day 2021

President Biden - oh, how wonderful that sounds! - gave a strong inaugural address indicating his desire to set a tone for unity and common purpose that I hope outlasts his Presidency, especially if it's two terms long.  I'm only sorry  I couldn't see it on TV; I didn't have access to a television set at the time, so I had to listen to it on the radio.  I'm sort of glad I didn't watch it though, because thanks to COVID, it would have been dispiriting watching an inauguration where the dignitaries in attendance look like the Dalton Gang.
President Biden is already taking action on a lot of stuff signing executive orders that puts the U.S. back in the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization, as well as one that lifts a ban on travelers from Muslim-majority countries.  Ironically, COVID will clearly make that one irrelevant for awhile.  (The pandemic has made each country in the world like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory - no one goes in, no one goes out!)
Oh yeah, I actually set my DVR to record the inaugural ceremony from 12 PM to 3 PM, aware that the President is ways sworn in at noon.  Well, I would have missed seeing it anyway.  Biden was sworn in at ten minutes before noon; Vice President Kamala Harris was sworn in ten minutes before that.  That's how eager they were to get Trump behind everyone!
I'm just glad the outgoing President attended the inauguration after all.  That would be Mike Pence, who was pretty much our acting President in the final two weeks of Trump's administration while the Donald sat in the White House residential quarters, doing little more than sucking his thumb, wetting his pants, and watching Fox News.
No hula dances, though. 😉
