Stating The Obvious

How do I think President Obama will do with his State of the Union address? How will he play up the economy? Ask me if I even care. Incidentally, MSNBC is asking viewers to offer an end to the sentence "The state of the Union is . . . " I have a perfect ending for that sentence, but I don't use that kind of language in public.
The state of our so-called Union - the states are fighting another war with each other, only this time it's being fought in Congress with appropriations (like, for storm relief) and with policy (such as, say, whether or not to do something about climate change) rather than on a battlefield in Virginia. Congress is so paralyzed in partisan gridlock that it can't get anything done. We need to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, modernize our transportation system, and get the economy moving again, and Congress can't even pass a budget plan designed to avoid a so-called budget sequester!
Ugh. I have enough to worry about without wondering whether Obama will prod Congress into action. Besides, it looks like there could be another big snowstorm by the weekend where I live. I was thinking of maybe giving up my Saturday writers' group meetings for Lent, but the weather is already making me do that.
Let the President give his uplifting, patriotic, constitutionally mandated speech. Spare me the details; just let me sneer at the highlights.
