Campaign News - February 1, 2008

In their surprisingly civil debate last night, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton tried to distinguish themselves on minute policy differences, as well as their differences on the Iraq War, which are far from minute. Obama deftly reminded the voters how he warned from the start that it was a bad idea, while Clinton hedged and dodged the issue as always. Her parsing of words - a Clinton strong suit, I understand - could very well help Obama with undecided voters on Tuesday.
Clinton, for her part, used the current economic downturn as a reason for "dynastism" in a feeble attempt to take that nagging issue head-on. It took a Clinton to get America out of the last mess left by a Bush, she said, so it's going to take another Clinton to get us out of this Bush's mess.
So, only the Clintons have the power to clean up the mess left by supply-side economics. Gee, what mystical powers those Clintons have - only they can get us out of anything! Yeah, right.
Even though I'm supporting Obama, I feel kind of sad that John Edwards is out of the campaign, because he took on the corporate interests in this country so energetically. Many observers believe the mainstream media, rarely enamored with his feisty populism, deliberately ignored him because his message went against the established order that the mainstream media so jealously guard. I primarily hold one man responsible for Edwards's downfall, and when the country enters a permanent state of oligarchic feudalism, we should all thank him.
"Edwards - he's Trotsky!" - Jim Cramer, February 25, 2007
Thanks for everything, Jim. You're a guy.  >:-(
