Barack Obama's presidential campaign just got a major boost, and for that he can thank the Clintons.
Edward M. Kennedy, the grand homme of Democratic Party politics, his son Patrick, and his niece Caroline (President Kennedy's daughter) have endorsed Obama for President, calling him the most inspiring candidate for the presidency and saying that he is the biggest hope for America's future. Ted Kennedy was so disgusted with the Clintons' arrogance and gutter politics in South Carolina that he delivered the most stinging rebuke to them with this endorsement. It is the political equivalent of a lightning bolt from Zeus.
Obama seized the initiative, accepting the endorsement with an electrifying speech that made numerous references to the Kennedy legacy and sought to promote the idea of one America, and one people, regardless of race (wink wink: He's not the "black candidate!"), regardless of economic background, and regardless of political affiliation.
And noting then-Senator John F. Kennedy's influence in letting Obama's father come from Kenya to study here was a nice touch.
Hillary may have better poll numbers and more money, but Obama has the momentum and the higher ground. Which is exactly what he needs to move himself (and us) forward.
