What's On Television

MyNetwork, the English-language telenovela channel I've already described here, debuted tonight with two weeknightly (including Saturdays) dramas. Both of them are only supposed to last thirteen weeks, then be replaced by two new serials.
So far, the diference between Hispanic and Anglo-Saxon telenovelas is this. Hispanic miniserials are where Salma Hayek got her start. Anglo-Saxon ones are where aging eighties "it" girls like Morgan Fairchild go when it's over.
Speaking of aging "it" girls, Katie Couric debuted tonight as the new evening anchor of the CBS Evening News. Wonderful - maybe I'll actually see it one of these days. Katie will give CBS an even bigger boost in the ratings than Bob Schieffer did, but can it last? Because the moment a bored nation gets up to find the remote and change the channel (which a bored nation could have easily done without the remote once it got up) to NBC's Brian Williams, Katie's career is over faster than Morgan Fairchild's was.
