The Lexington Commuter Airline Crash

The commuter airline crash in Lexington, Kentucky, that killed 49 out of 50 people on board (including newlyweds) screams for the need for the United States to rebuild its passenger railroad network. These small commuter planes are dangerous enough without attempting to take off on runways not meant for them, as happened in this case. It crashed before getting off the ground. The plane was bound for Atlanta, three hundred miles to the south. This is a distance that a fast train could have covered in a relatively quick time, with a much smaller risk for an accident. And it's even worse that many commuter airline pilots are making less many than the guy at the local fast-food joint. :-O
