White House Changes

George W. Bush's new chief of staff, Joshua Bolten, is making changes in the White House personnel designed to sell the President's policy better, even though they'll be selling the same old wine in new bottles (to paraphrase David Gergen). The good news is that Scott McClellan, the abrasive White House press secretary, is on his way out; even though he insists the decision to leave is his, I suspect that Bolten had something to do with it. The bad news is that Karl Rove will be relieved of his policy duties to gear the Republicans up for the midterm elections. And if we all know one thing about Rove, he slices and dices Democrats like a Japanese chef slices food at a Benihana grill. Senator Charles Schumer, the New York Democrat chairing his party's senatorial campaign committee, may love a good fight, but he may meet his match if Rove gets more involved in helping the Guardians of Privilege (GOP) maintain their Senate majority. And Rove may actually help place a hasbeen football player in the governorship of Pennsylvania. :-O
Or maybe not. Thanks to Iraq, Katrina, and several other reasons, the Republicans may still be in serious trouble, the kind not even Rove can rescue them from. After all, the White House is still offering up the same tired, old, disastrous agenda. In ordinary life, people often change. Those who don't become useless and irrelevant.
Just like George W. Bush.
