Religious Justice?

I thought I was ready to support Harriet Miers for the Supreme Court, because I was worried that Bush would appoint someone worse to replace Justice O'Connor if she was not confirmed. Now Bush is playing up her ultraconservative religious beliefs - as if that were a prerequisite for a seat on the highest court in the land - to convince "Christian" right-wingers she's worthy of her support. If that's the case, she's not worthy of my support! We don't need a justice who will her base her decisions on her personal beliefs any more than we need pharmacists who'll refuse to fill contraceptive prescriptions based on their personal beliefs.
How will Democrats handle this? Stay tuned - maybe we'll find out.
