Advice For Politicians

With the Democrats trying to figure out the best way to win back Congress in 2006 and the Whiter House in 2008, I have a little advice for the Dems - cut the diversity crap! Stop talking about the racial and ethnic diversity of your party and how the Republicans are a whitebread party. Not only is diversity just a celebration of differences between Americans without noting their common qualities, bear in mind that the current administration has a black female Secretary of State, a Chinese-American female Secretary of Labor, and a Japanese-American Secretary of Transportation who's also a registered Democrat! Not to mention a Hispanic Attorney General. By the way, I couldn't help but notice that the Democrats who talk up diversity the most- black House members - represent overwhelmingly black districts that they set up with help from Republicans who wanted districts that were more white and less competitive. I also couldn't help but notice how you don't see many of these black House members in interracial marriages, even though they protested the loudest against the ban (since lifted) on interracial dating at Bob Jones University - though I'll award them points for that. Actually, there is a name for politicians who have spouses of a different race - Republicans!
And while I'm doling out advice to politicians, here's some for Connecticut governor Jodi Rell - stop whining about the proposed closing of the Bradley Air Guard base! We know bases in the Northeast were targeted for closing by the Pentagon for political reasons, and the Groton submarine base in New London was also slated for closing, but the base was saved by the independent base-closing commission. You should be happy about it. And you're still bitching about Bradley? Governor, take your half a loaf and declare victory already! What do you need an Air National Guard base for, anyway, to protect Hartford from an air attack? Funny, but Hartford looks like it's already been hit by enemy bombers. Hartford does have its virtues, though, the main one - aside from the Wadsworth Athenaeum - that it's not Albany!
I hope this has all been helpful.
