Here Come De Judge

George W. Bush has appointed the telegenic judge John G. Roberts, Jr. as his replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court. At first I had a couple of misgivings about the appointment, given the background of Judge Roberts's public service (he signed a brief for the senior George Bush's administration urging the repeal of Roe v. Wade), but he seems to be well respected by Democrats and Republicans alike. Also, there's nothing on his record to suggest he's an ideologue. Nothing found yet, anyway. And Supreme Court justices have a tendency to shock the Presidents who appoint them. Ask Bush the Elder about David Souter. :-D
John Kerry has demanded to see some of Roberts's sealed records from when he worked in the Reagan White House. And he imagines we are impressed. :-O
