A Xenophobe For U.N. Ambassador?

The horrible John Bolton's nomination to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was sent to the full Senate by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today, with Senator George Voinivich (R-OH) expressing deep concern about Bolton but recommending that his nomination be sent to the full Senate without an approval or disapproval. But before you nod and suggest that this was a fair compromise, bear in mind that had Voinivich voted against sending the Bolton nomination ahead - with all other Republicans and Democrats on the committee voting along party lines - the vote would have been tied, nine in favor and nine against, and the appointment from George W. Bush would be dead. A special deal (what is this, KMart?) was "negotiated" to allow the Foreign Relations Committee to send the appointment to the full Senate for an up-or-down vote without a recommendation either way, which likely wouldn't have happened under normal circumstances. This almost assures that the appointment will go through.
If John Bolton is a diplomat, then Michael Bolton is a soul singer. :-p
