Razzies 2005

Lots to cover today, and I've already been on this damn Internet way too long, so I'll be as brief as possible.
The Razzie nominations for the worst of American cinema are out, and here are the, umm, highlights. Halle Berry is a shoe-in for Worst Actress in Catwoman. The picture got six other nominations, including Worst Picture and Worst Supporting actress. No surprise there.
But the biggest surprise is that Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 - shut out of the Oscars - got some Razzie nominations, although they're the kind Moore will certainly welcome.
George W. Bush has become the first U.S. President (including Ronald Reagan) to receive a Worst Actor nomination for his lying about Iraq in Moore's film. And his chief deputy, Condolezza Rice - now our new Secretary of State, having just been confirmed by the Republican-controlled Senate - received a Worst Supporting Actress nomination.
Colin Farrell received a Worst Actor nomination for Alexander, and Oliver Stone earned a Worst Director nomination for making the film. Guess its success in Europe didn't help. The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation is, after all, an American institution, devoted to identifying the uniquely American art of awful filmmaking.
It's something we're very good at.
