Events Moving Quickly

Events seem to moving ahead of my ability to comment on them, particularly Iraq.
The slaughter of American civilian contractors in the Iraqi city of Fallujah this past Wednesday and the killing of eight Americans in Iraq just yesterday have raised the stakes for the Bush administration to impose something resembling order there, even as the U.S. administrators plan to transfer power to the governing council by June 30. The rise of anti-American militias in Iraq will only make things far more difficult for everyone trying to leave Iraq better than they found it. It increasingly looks clear that we can't withdraw our troops in a quick, orderly fashion. We can choose between quick or orderly, but not both. Bush has played with fire, and his administration - and perhaps the whole country - may get burned. :-(
