Down the Hatch

Meanwhile, back in Washington, while Karl Rove salivates over the possibility of a Governor Schwarzenegger in California, Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) is pushing for a constitutional amendment to allow foreign-born citizens to run for President or Vice President. Like building a bridge across the Atlantic or designing a car that runs on water, this is one of those spectacularly bad ideas that should be laughed at. But the idea of getting an electable Republican in the White House after George W. Bush should Bill Frist or brother Jeb falter - indeed, an electable Republican from California - is allowing Hatch's lamebrained amendment to be taken seriously. Please go to this e-mail form to let Senator Hatch know just what a stupid idea this is.
Oh yeah, if Arnie ever makes it to the White House, the U.S. won't be the first country to have an Austrian-born leader apart from Austria itself. Germany allowed a native Austrian to become chancellor in 1933. What was his name? Oh, yeah - Adolf Hitler!
