It's gonna snow tomorrow. . . .and it's ##@@!!in' April! Arrggghhhh. . . . Oh, well, let's hope this is the last snowfall the Northeast gets for awhile. . . .No, until next winter! We've had four months of snow already! Enough!
Alright, enough ranting about the weather. So here's my report on the Beatles convention. It was fun, as always - I got to hear a lot of great music and I took in some enjoyable presentations. The best one was from photographer Robert Freeman, who gave a slide show of his work photographing the Beatles, along with some of his non-Beatles work. There was also plenty of interesting art work to look at, as well as some incisive lectures on the group's output.
One guest who was entertaining but less than stellar was Donovan, who had some warm memories of hanging out with the Fabs in India but musically left a little to be desired. He performed "Sunshine Superman," a song I actually like, but he also did minor ditties like "Mellow Yellow" and his non-epic tune "Atlantis." I was singing along and making up lyrics behind the chorus; it's that ridiculous.
I also involved myself in some Beatles singalongs, in which I recited Oswald's death scene from Shakespeare's King Lear in a singalong of "I Am the Walrus" (I always wanted to do that! :-D), sang "Judy in disguise with glasses" to the chorus of "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds," and used a cushioned dining chair as a bongo drum in singalongs of "Back In the U.S.S.R." and "Hey Jude."
All in all, though, the Beatles convention was great fun. I hope to attend next year, unless it snows that weekend.
And the 2004 convention is scheduled for the first weekend of. . .April! :-(
