In all the time I've been running this weblog, I haven't commented much on the possible war with Iraq, which kind of embarrasses me. Nonetheless, I do have an opinion on Bush's threats of military action. Quite simply, I think he's out of his cotton-picking mind.
We're on a possibly greater collision course with North Korea, while Saddam Hussein shows no sign of having developed the kind of weapons that could possibly be used against us - least of all the American homeland - and Bush still wants us to believe that Iraq is the greater threat. H.L. Mencken once said that when someone says the subject at hand is not about money, it is in fact about money. Well, Bush, Cheney and the assorted nimrods in the Dubya White House keep saying this conflict with Saddam Hussein is not about oil. Trust me - it's about oil. It's about who controls it, who gets a lot of it, and who makes, well, money off it.
Bush is hell-bent on going to war whether the world thinks it's a good idea or not. So far, most of the world think it's not a good idea. Granted, France and Russia have their own petroleum-related interests as reasons for opposing American (and British) mobilization against Iraq, but Bush's thrist for the black gold goes beyond the pale.
Like most conservative Republican Presidents, Dub the Shrub has the whole world distrusting us. He pursues war for economic interests and lies about it. He waves the flag to get a majority of Americans to support him in the polls. He has successfully convinced a nation - this one - that what he's doing is right, even if the rest of the world detests us for the asinine foreign policy we are pursuing. It's an absolutely disgraceful abomination that this jerk is President of the United States!
