American high schools are always being derided for fostering a culture that encourages an emphasis on student popularity, childish practical jokes, even more childish romances and crushes, superfluous after-school activities, clueless guidance counselors, and too much focus on varsity sports, in which education is only incidental. Funny, but that seems to describe my experience in college! And then I can't understand why I'm working as a cubicle drone in a suburban office building!
When I started college, I was told that there were no fraternities or sororities. That was a lie. There was one such group on campus - it was called the "theater arts majors!" I was one of those pretentious guys in college who only took an interest in theater to pick up girls from the college dramatic society, then thought I really was into the theater. How did it turn out? Let me put it this way - since college, I've preferred to go to the movies!
