In 2007, I self-published on Blogger.com an article about Therisa Barber, a living statue artist who works in New York's Central Park just inside the East 72nd Street entrance to the park, at Pilgrim Hill. And, for as long as that article has been online, there's been a link to it on this blog. As of today, that article is no longer available.
Why?
Because I got it published for real! :-D
Specifically, I got it published in the New York Press's Our Town community paper, which, like most community newspapers, comes out on Thursdays. (It covers the Upper East Side of Manhattan.) The editor liked what he saw but asked me to update it and revise it, and once I did, he was happy to run it. So what did I change? Why don't you go to the article and read it yourself?
(One thing did change which I didn't mention in the article. She got married, and so she is now known as Therisa Barber-Shaw. So, if she hand her husband have four kids, they'll have a Barber-Shaw quartet! Feel free to groan at that joke, not too many people have found it hysterically funny.)
The best thing about this article, aside from the fact that I'll get paid for it (sorry, it's in bad taste for me to discuss how much), is that it could lead to further opportunities with this community newspaper chain, and, even after the print version of this issue is gone, the article will remain online. Even so, I have a feeling more people will read my piece about Therisa in the next seven days than there were who read it in the past seven years.
Good things come to those who wait. And now I've finally had this article published professionally. What a relief. :-) Thanks for your support, dear readers!
