Shaun White was a favorite in the men's snowboarding halfpipe for the gold medal, but a couple of mistakes left him in fourth place. He was hoping to win a third straight gold medal in the event - something no American male winter Olympian had ever done before - but, as it turns out, not one American is standing on the medal podium in this event. Iouri Podladtchikov, an ethnic Russian representing Switzerland, won the gold medal. (Two Japanese competitors took silver and bronze.) "I-Pod," as Iouri Podladtchikov (figure it out for yourself), is now the reigning king of halfpipe snowboarding. White was at least gracious in defeat.
So what went wrong? I think it was because White cut his hair. I don't know if it happened just the other day, but it must have been that . . . look at what happened to Samson.
And you know where I'm going with this . . . snowboarder Danny Davis looks a little like David Crosby. :-D
Meanwhile, the commercialism of the Winter Games continues - I just saw American women's ice hockey player Julie Chu in two back-to-back commercials for two entirely different products. Then I saw her in a third . . . for noted polluter BP. :-O
