So a deal with Iran to keep that country from enriching too much uranium to make a bomb and checking back with the Iranians to make sure they're living up to the deal to avoid a re-imposition of economic sanctions is a diversion organized by the White House to distract us form the failures of Obamacare? Right. First of all, Obamacare is actually beginning to work well, especially in the fourteen states that are running their own exchanges (New Jersey, alas, is not one of them). Secondly, this deal actually gives the Iranians only a little bit of leeway with regard to sanctions and keeps their nuclear program strongly in check while negotiations continue between Iran and the West continue. Thirdly, negotiations with Iran to make this deal possible - a deal that prevents a war - started back in March, in secret, long before Obamacare would run into trouble.
So why is the right so upset? You know what I think? I think the righties are just jealous because President Obama was able to make a diplomatic breakthrough with secret, back-door deals. After all, their hero, Ronald Reagan, actually tried the same thing in the mid-1980s, and we all know how that turned out.
