Okay, the threatened coastal storm actually stayed out to sea and didn't get the American Northeast, and I should be happy that this area's long stretch of beautiful weather continues. I am . . . and I'm not. Because after all the perfectly good weather we've had, the odds are that we'll have weather just as perfectly bad, and soon. (Sorry to hear about that storm in the Pacific Northwest.) Things have a way of coming out even - dead even. It hasn't rained in over two weeks, and I fear a violent storm will ensue when it does rain. We've simply had so much good weather for so long, we're going to have to pay for it eventually. Hurricane Sandy was the price we paid for the mild, practically snow-free winter of 2011-12.
Meanwhile, the government shutdown looks like it's going to happen. That's a storm of a different kind.
