Take Out the Trash

Monday is trash day where I live, and my mother always complains that we get screwed on legal holidays because they're always on Mondays. Hence we have to put out a whole week's worth of trash on Thursday, our other trash day, when there's no Monday pickup due to Memorial Day or Labor Day. This year we have two extra legal Monday holidays to fret over - Independence Day, which falls on a Monday this year, and the day after Christmas, to compensate for the fact that Christmas this year (2011) falls on a Sunday, a day most people ordinarily get off anyway.
However, other Monday holidays, like Presidents' Day, have regularly scheduled trash pickup. This includes today, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, even though Dr. King spent the last days of his life lending support to a . . . sanitation workers' strike.
Some people just don't get it.
