Mark Carney's Liberal Party in Canada won a huge victory in the country's parliamentary elections, making Carney prime minister in his own right. (The leader of the Conservative Party opposition, a MAGA-type populist, lost his seat in Parliament.) Carney united Canadians to stand in solidarity against Donald J. Trump. Commentators are considering this to be a major loss for Trump, who has openly talked about annexing the Great White North to expand U.S. domination over the North American continent.
Meanwhile, Canada is seeking new trade deals with other nations, as are China, Great Britain and the European Union states. A severe shortage of goods is expected to negative impact on the U.S. in the coming months, and the U.S. might be isolated from trade deals for generations, but who cares when you have no recourse against American leadership until after it is too late? That, a descent into a hundred years of darkness for America, not the Carney win in Canada, is trhe big takeaway from the Canadian elections.
