The World Cup began today with a smashing victory by host country Germany against Costa Rica in a 4-2 match. Great game, and it would have been entertaining enough without all the heavy scoring! Poland got defeated by Ecuador in the other Group A match of the day.
It's always nice to see world-class soccer on the tube, especially during the World Cup. The national teams bring together players who normally compete in professional clubs in countries other than their own (David Beckham plays for a Spanish team!) , and it brings the world together in a friendly rivalry. Including the United States, making its fifth World Cup appearance in a row. I wish the U.S. well, and though they have a better chance of winning the Cup than most teams, England (the United Kingdom doesn't have a single team representing the entire country) is the odds-on favorite.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Sorry, couldn't resist. :-) )
