The news from the fight against Islamic fundamentalist terrorism gets weirder. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice recently acknowledged receipt of a letter from the president of Iran - whose name I still can't spell, much less pronounce - urging a dialogue with the United Staes to resolve the standoff over Iran's nuclear program. I thought that was astonishing.
You can actually mail a letter between Washington and Tehran with no problem? :-D
Meanwhile, Zacarias Moussaoui, who insisted during his trial that he was part of the September 11 plot, now says he lied about that because he was convinced he could never get a fair trial. Now, however, because he got life instead of the death penalty in spite of the government's best efforts to link him directly to 9/11, he thinks he can get a fair trial after all. Gimme a break. Judge Leonie Brinkema, who presided over the trial - and bully for her, I say - won't grant him a new trial, but she does admit Moussaoui can appeal his sentence. Not likely - he'll spend the rest of his life behind bars, and when he dies he'll be greeted by a couple of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fans who want to play him six dozen live recordings of "Karn Evil 9." That is, 72 versions.
And then Moussaoui will spend eternity being welcomed back, my friends, to the show that never ends. :-D
