Hillary Needs To Work On Her Politics

Hillary Rodham Clinton's attempt to pander to "moderate" Republicans backfired with her own daughter. At a Chamber of Commerce meeting, Mrs. Clinton belittled the current generation of young people, so-called "Millenials," for not being industrious and treating work like a bad word, Maynard G. Krebs-style. She complained that they'e too addicted to technological diversions like IPods and the Internet to work. The speech may have gone over well with guys who have been sending good jobs over to China and Mexico and leaving young people with undignified "McJobs" even immigrants wouldn't take, but it turns out she offended her daughter Chelsea (born in 1980, thus a Millenial "elder"). Chelsea Clinton called her mom to let her know that a lot of young people do work, and work a lot, and that she and her friends, all twentysomethings trying to establish themselves in American life and all that rot, were not very happy with the speech. Hillary apologized privately to her daughter and publicly in another appearance.
Hillary should consider herself lucky many young Americans can't, or don't, vote. And if remarks like the ones she made before businessmen are indicative of the rhetoric we'll hear in the 2008 campaign, a lot of young people will stay home on Election Day.
Unless they have to work.
